ROSENCRANTZ & GUILDERSTERN ARE UNDEAD

picture-1.jpg

If you’ve recently seen David Slade’s arctic blood bath, 30 Days of Night, you may be in the mood for a vampire themed movie with a little more class, for vampires you’d actually want to go out with for a drink – maybe a bite. If that’s the case, you’ll want to check out Joradan Galland’s eclectic brainchild, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead, which somehow combines Shakespeare, Vampires, and a quest for the Holy Grail in a modern-day setting. “How,” you may rightly ask? We sat down Galland, to get the skinny. By Lars Bohr

WARHOL DENIED

Stacked is the culmination of the two most recent series by Charles Lutz, “Denial & Acceptance” and “Sold”. The sculpture refers to Warhol’s box sculptures of the 1960’s as well as the trunks of the luxury manufacturer Louis Vuitton. These references could not be more contradictory, luxury versus domestic, mass production versus hand crafted, utilitarian versus decorative. Warhol’s box sculptures raised the everyday objects to the level of high art. Lutz takes the works a step further by raising them to the level of luxury, highlighting the absurdity of a Brillo, Heinz, Kellogg’s box becoming a status symbol. “Stacked” will be produced in a series of 7 plus one artist proof, each with it own unique color scheme and monogramming.

Interesting new work from Brookyln artist Charles Lutz.  He takes the classic LV trunks and turns them into boxes of blue collar commercial products.  Now I know his whole thing is working with Warhol’s peices but this seems like it’s been done 1000 times before.  I mean working with the LV monogram was done to death 5 years ago, but maybe his combing of the two brings an interesting aspect to it.

MOSCOT ELECTRIFIED

I’m a huge fan of Moscot’s eyewear for their classic yet relevant styling so It’s interesting to see their new release, inspired by artist, Chris Benz.  They come in peacock, cerulean, golden olive and orchid.  Not something I would wear, but cool none the less.  They kind of look like those Oakley Frogskins.

WHITE WILLIAMS

White Williams is actually Joseph Williams and Joseph Williams makes really good music.  He release his album at the end of last year, Smoke and I must have been sleeping because I just realized how amazing it is.  It was all done in various sublets with his laptop and I like the organic sound it has.  I feel like if it was done in a studio it would have been quite as charming.    Its kind of melancholic but kind of hopeful and kind of reminds me of that time in the morning when it is pretty dusty and the sun is coming through the window.  I’m not good at describing this stuff, so jut listen to it yourself at his my space.  I can see Jerry Hsu using “New Violence” in one of his parts in a skate video.
