CLO$ING DOWN $ALE

Checked out the opening of Nate Lowman and Dan Colen’s new show at Maccarone. Pretty awesome collection of found objects/junk/retro/ironic imagery. Typical downtown art crowd meets uptown art buyers. A lot of the stuff seems to have already been bought but what’s interesting to me is that all the kids that want to buy this can’t afford it, so it’s old mid life crisis art dudes buying this stuff up.
THE BEST MORRISSEY SONG THAT’S NOT BY MORRISSEY

I’ve been a fan of Cass McCombs for a while but realized not as many people are up on him as I thought so I’d like to share with you a song I’ve had on repeat for the past little while. He recently put out a new album at the end of last year, but this one if from an older album, PREfection.
MORDECHAI IN TIME OUT NEW YORK

Check out our friend Mordechai aka Mister Mort in the current T.O.N.Y. He is blowing up! Thanks to A Continuous Lean for the picture.
Mordechai says: “This is the same kind of hat Frank Sinatra wore on the cover of Come Fly with Me. I got it at a flea market in Florida. If I’m wearing a suit or sport coat I’ll don a fedora; when I think I won’t run into anyone, I’ll wear a fitted hat. I have been wearing a black Borsalino since my bar mitzvah and haven’t looked back. They get better with every wind- and rainstorm!”
“When the trousers have buttons, one must wear suspenders. I love a high waist with braces! Your stomach fluctuates throughout the day, so suspenders beat a belt anytime.”
“This suit is vintage J.Press. I don’t have a favorite outfit. I just love classic American Ivy League style. When it comes to all the patterns, there’s no method to my madness. It’s intuitive, not overthought.”
“I grew up wearing a suit every Shabbes. I look to the Duke of Windsor and David Hockney for inspiration—the two together make the perfect combination of English gentleman and U.S. dirtbag.”
DAVID BLACK PHOTOGRAPHY
I don’t know much about NY based David Black, but I know he takes some photos of some great subject mater including the beautiful Chan Marshall (Cat Power) and my friend Donald. Check him out…

CONSIDER THIS MY BLOG ROLL…
I don’t have a blog roll like most blogs, but thought I would share some of links to my favorite reads on the web - friends, weirdoes, whatever… that you may not know about because the last thing we need is a fucking link to The Sartorialist. (No hate!)

SEEING DOUBLE

Interesting to see two points of view from one night whether it’s from The Cobrasnake, Bronques, Epicly Later’d or The Skullset. In this case both Jack from the skullset and Patrick from Epicly Later’d snaped some shots at Agathe Snow’s Stamina - her entry into the Whitney Biennial. Jack Shoots Patrick (top), and Patrick shoots Jack (bottom), as well as our friend from Toronto, Marlowe.
KNOCK IT OFF

I was pretty surprised when I saw Goyard fakes popping up a few years ago, but the fakers have been taking to the next level. I’m pretty surpirsed to see small(er) high fashion niche brands are being faked now… Above is a picture of some poorly done plastic lookign Common Projects (note the Engrish), and below, some fake Raf Simons and Number (N)ine tees, as well as a Martin Margiela Blazer. What’s interesting with the blazer is that typicaly fakes are of easily identifiable flashy things, but the only thing identifying this blazer as Margiela is the tag…

BALENCIAGA AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLORED SNEAKERS

Balenciaga, probably your girlfriends favorite brand (thats a good thing - unless she expects you to buy it for her), has been putting out some pretty solid men stuff, but I haven’t decided if this sneaker is totally rad or totally tacky (or both). The shape reminds me of Alife’s and the crazy colors remind me of one of my favorite sneakers from a while ago, The Undefeated Dunk. Anyways, there around $600 and I don’t really know where to get them, but either way interesting to look at…
FALLEN RAPPERS IMMORTALIZED AS PEZ DISPENSERS
Michael Durham is an artists who does a lot of interesting work, often making some sort of statement on politics or the state of society. He’s done a lot of cool projects, but my favourites is his Pez Dispensers featuring Norotious B.I.G., Tupac and Eazy-E. He sculpted and molded the designs himself and even attempted to sell them to PEZ (they shut him down - “our audience is geared to 3 to 6 year olds”).
