Weather: March is the first month of spring, and the weather is much warmer than in the previous two months. The average nightly low temperature is cold at 5 °C (41 °F), and the average daily high temperature reaches a cool 13 °C (55 °F). It rains about 9 days a month, and total precipitation is about 81 mm.

Things to Do in Suzhou in March

March is a good time for a spring outing to enjoy the flowers in Suzhou's large gardens. These historic gardens are best enjoyed when there are no crowds, and tourism is low in March. In March, a variety of flowers are in bloom such as plum blossoms, azaleas, peonies, tulips, and etc. Thousands of visitors come in March to enjoy the flowers and gardens, but it is less crowded than in high season.

Visit the Humble Administrator's Garden

Humble Administrator's Garden: It is one of several large, old and artistically landscaped Chinese gardens in Suzhou. It is so special and has such a long history that it is listed by international organizations and the Chinese government as a special cultural heritage, and it is one of Suzhou's main tourist highlights.

In Chinese, it is called Zhuozheng Yuan, and it is one of the nine classical gardens in Suzhou. It was first laid out in 1509, and it measures 52,000 square meters (12 acres), and it is the largest of all the classical gardens in Suzhou. It features a pond with a lot of ducks and birds.

Experience the Lingering Garden

The Lingering Garden: This park emphasizes Chinese music and gives the feeling you are in the old Chinese countryside. You'll hear Chinese instrumental music all around as you walk the winding paths. There is an artificial hill that looks like a mountain, and the garden is landscaped in such a way that it seems like a countryside or forest with hills, caves, rocks, winding paths and pavilions.

It is one of the best preserved of all the Suzhou gardens, and the landscaping has made it famous throughout China. Perspective, bonsai trees, and selected plants are arranged to make the 2 hectares (5.6 acres) garden seem much bigger. There is a coffee shop too. The park is best enjoyed without noisy crowds, so go there when it isn't high tourist season.

March and the first half of April is a low travel season. If you want to avoid crowds and want to enjoy good touring with lower prices, this is the right time for you to travel to Suzhou. Prices are relatively low for target hotel accommodations, flight tickets and train tickets.
